> [!ABSTRACT] > PLUME is an advanced smart waste management platform designed to optimise waste collection for industrial and commercial organisations. Building on the scientific foundation of the SWAM project, PLUME integrates real-time data from IoT sensors, advanced analytics, and a modular planning solution to enhance waste collection processes and reduce costs. > [!FACTSHEET] > - **Funding**: Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) - JUMP programme > - **Duration**: 2022-2024 > - **My role**: Coordinator > - **Key partners**: Polygone (Luxembourg), SmartEnds (Belgium) ## Context Most waste collection companies lack access to real-time data, limiting their ability to optimise processes and reduce costs. This is critical as global waste production is projected to rise by 70% by 2050, posing significant environmental and energy challenges. PLUME addresses these issues by offering a solution for monitoring and optimising waste collection. Using fill-level IoT sensors, it provides actionable insights to avoid unnecessary bin visits and overflowing waste containers, ultimately improving operational efficiency. ## Key objectives 1. **Develop a technological solution**: Build on the TRL 6 prototype from SWAM, incorporating IoT sensors, real-time analytics, and optimisation engines. 2. **Refine the value proposition**: Collaborate with market stakeholders, including Polygone and SmartEnds, to align the platform with industry needs. 3. **Validate through market discovery**: Test and calibrate the solution in Luxembourg and other European markets to determine the best commercialisation strategy. ## Outcomes - A modular online platform for waste collection management and optimisation. - Real-time monitoring of waste levels through IoT sensors. - Advanced analytics and routing tools for efficient waste collection paths. - Market validation for industrial and commercial waste collection. - A clear pathway to commercialisation and operating models. ## Consortium PLUME is a collaboration between the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST), Polygone, and SmartEnds. It builds on the success of the SWAM project to deliver practical, market-ready solutions for the smart waste management industry. Visit the [LIST website](https://www.list.lu/) for more information.
