> [!ABSTRACT] > [COMBO](https://www.list.lu/en/research/it/project/combo/) is a local initiative aimed at optimally integrating connected and autonomous shuttles into passenger and freight transport systems to enhance urban and peri-urban mobility. > [!FACTSHEET] > - **Funding**: Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) - BRIDGES programme > - **Duration**: 2022 - 2025 > - **My role**: Coordinator > - **Key partners**: Société nationale des chemins de fer luxembourgeois (CFL) ![](https://youtu.be/rijM9CEkWTI) ## Context The use of connected and autonomous vehicles to complement existing mobility solutions has the potential to radically transform how people and goods are transported. By offering on-demand services, these technologies can positively impact daily life, urban development, and social planning. Across Europe, many initiatives have deployed electric mini-buses of various sizes (approximately 15 seats) in urban and peri-urban areas. However, there is a need to create more integrated service offerings and clarify their potential societal benefits, as emphasised by the European Commission. ## Key objectives The COMBO project focuses on the following main objectives: 1. **Studying the integration of connected and autonomous shuttles**: Analyse the implications, benefits, and medium- to long-term impacts of integrating these shuttles into existing transport systems. 2. **Developing a decision-support system**: Create an operational deployment roadmap for mobility operators while providing society and public stakeholders with a better understanding of these solutions. 3. **Designing a digital twin approach**: Implement a simulation that combines artificial and real-world data collected in the field to model the entire country. These objectives represent the project’s primary ambitions. ## Outcomes The COMBO project aims to: - **Promote and achieve widespread acceptance of [[Connected and Automated Mobility]] solutions**: Anticipate the long-term implications and impacts of using these solutions. - **Enhance coordination among stakeholders**: Strengthen collaboration across the mobility, logistics, telecommunications sectors, and end-users through a multidisciplinary approach. - **Optimise future investment planning**: Leverage expertise in simulation, communication networks, multi-objective optimisation, and artificial intelligence for better planning. These are just some examples of the expected outcomes of the project. For more information, visit the [COMBO webpage](https://www.list.lu/en/research/it/project/combo/).
